Intrepid began in the summer of 1998 and we’ve gone from strength to strength ever since, always evolving, always exploring; remaining true to our name.
Over the past 10 years we’ve completed an enormous amount of work; everything from touring brand new plays to young audiences across the southeast of England, working in partnership on community projects both large & small, facilitating workshops in schools & conferences & training for teachers, to developing a range of highly successful classes & activities.
Throughout Intrepid has been run by Richard Hawley & Alison West. Richard has had the ideas behind the majority of the work and been in the backroom busily building partnerships, fundraising and developing Intrepid. Alison meanwhile, has lead the company on all of it’s various journeys and been the key artist and project leader, collaborating with writers, directors, designers, technicians, actors, teachers, volunteers, young people, parents and children.
There isn’t one particular way we work, our portfolio is too wide and diverse, however, the common theme is that we bring to the table the ideas and we lead - working in collaboration, bringing the project to fruition through careful & thoughtful management.
We are particularly passionate about stories, about people & their communities. Take a look at our history page, its packed full of all the work that we’ve done.
About Alison West
"Allie is a theatre practitioner who cares about the needs of the individual: both children and fellow staff. She is happy to let other creatives lead in session and is always supportive and excited by her collaborators ideas. She is always striving for the best possible experience for kids involved with Intrepid."
Ed Burnside, Co-Artistic Director, Dorset Corset Theatre Company & Intrepid Teacher.
About Richard Hawley
"Richard is a man who clearly gets a great deal of fulfilment from the work he does and rightly so. He seems to work at all hours of the day and is always available to discuss project ideas or difficulties. Probably his greatest assets are his patience and enthusiasm which no doubt come in very handy when trying to handle the incredible amount of work he does."
James Garrard, web-designer & developer, collaborator with Richard on this site.
